I really don't have any questions or concerns at this point in the assignment. I feel that I have everything in place.
I am however, looking for a resource with free stuff such as books or anything else that could be used for early literacy. This is something that I would like to give each child who participates in the family read night.
The resources that I have found that have been insightful has been the family fun website (www.familyfun.com) www.earlymoments.com, www.scholastic.com and www.naccrra.org. These websites had some good articles that I was able to use to prepare for my fact sheet.
I do not know if this helps at all but looking for a yard sale. especially good around this time of year. and other sites I can give you

Thanks for the websites I will check them out!
DeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have it all under control! Good for you. As for free books have you tried local retail stores; WalMart, Dollar General? Also, Scholastic sometimes will donate books or you might try to organize a book fair through them in conjunction with your family read night. You just need to call and talk to one of the representatives rather than working through the website. Many books are inexpensive and you earn free ones as well. Thanks for the resources. Best of luck to you!
I am working with Scholastic, hopefully they will be able to help me with some book donations.
DeleteMary I hope they will help you. I was going to post under your original post that I didn't think they did donations like that. That's what I heard at work, but you know how that goes with the grape-vine. Even if they don't donate their books are very affordable. I do know that if you organization does their book sales using the flyers they give you "x" amount of free books depending on how much is ordered. We always get a bunch of free books for our classrooms this way.
DeleteGlad to hear that you are ready to go for the most part. I have this class to be much easier than the last class. What about you?
Another source I just thought of is an organization called Books Are Fun. They have independent agents in various states. We ordered all of our RIF books from them for the past four years. Very good prices and depending on the representative many free items. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteScholastic will also let classroom teachers earn points depending on how much money parents spend during the year on books for their children. One year a preschool teacher set up a class account. At the end of the school year she had earned $500 to spend on books plus she got about 20 free books. Scholastic book fairs give the school a percentage of the profits. Good luck with your presentation.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary it looks like you are ready to present. Why don't you ask your director for some resources. We have a partnership with R.I.F. and our children get free books once a month. You are doing a great job good luck on your presentation
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteYou sound confident about your presentation. I wish the best. Literacy is such an important topic to advocate for our youngest students. You could maybe ask some community clubs to sponsor some books for your presentation. At our site, we have the local Kiwanis Club that donates books to the children once a month. You could also find out if your local Goodwill will donate some for your effort. They used to have a program called, Goodwill Readers. They used to come and have volunteers read to the students and then give them each a book to take home. Both programs were really sucessful in helping our literacy efforts. Good luck with your presentation.
